Bourns gets ahead of Leone and Henselwood
Bromont, July 18, 2014 – Ireland’s Andrew Bourns took first place in the second FEI event at International Bromont, today July 18 at the Equestrian Olympic Park, ahead of Canadian Jill Henselwood.
Ahead of Leone and Henselwood
Eight rider/horse pairs made it to the jump-off in this second FEI 1.50 m designed by FEI4* course designer Guilherme Jorge (BRA) including Henselwood on Bolero HX, winners of the opening of this international event, on Thursday July 17.
Jill Henselwood and Bolero HX were in a great position to earn a second victory in two days: the duo had the best time with no faults in their first round. They also led through most of the jump-off with a clear round in 35.11 seconds. Peter Leone and his mount My Pleasure changed things with their performance. Second to last on the course, Leone and My Pleasure get ahead of Henselwood and Bolero with a little less than 30 hundreths of a second.
While Top 3 positions are guaranteed for Leone and Henselwood, the last pair out for the jump-off, Andrew Bourns (IRL) and Venice, have nothing to lose. Darting through the obstacles, Bourns and Venice succeed in taking first place, over one second faster than Peter Leone and My Pleasure.
Grand Prix on Sunday
The FEI events of the International Bromont will end on Sunday with the FEI 1.60 m Grand Prix and its $100 000 prize money purse. Until then, the International will present a Hunter Derby on Saturday July 19 as well as the highly popular Royal Canin Challenge, preceding the Grand Prix on July 20.
