International Bromont 2013 : first place for Yann Candele
Bromont, July 26, 2013 – Canadian Yann Candele steals a win in the FEI 1m50 jumping event at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.
With 34 horse/rider teams registered in this first FEI (Fédération Équestre Internationale) sanctioned event in the last week of the International Bromont, only 10 will make it to the jump-off.
The course, by eminent course designer Venezualan Leopoldo Palacios, consisted of 12 obstacles for 15 efforts, including three double combinations. The time allowed of 82 seconds proved to be a real challenge for many, keeping at least five pairs from advancing to the jump-off.
The second round promised to be tough as the first three pairs in the ring accumulate jumping faults. The performance of Ireland’s Andrew Bourns in the ring changes things: he takes the lead with a clear round in 47.49 seconds. Rider Yann Candele (CAN) immediately following rises to the challenge on his mount, Carolla Z. The pair races in the ring: with tight turns and a swift pace, they steal the victory with a perfectly executed round, in an unbeatable time of 38.52 seconds. Rider Jill Henselwood (CAN), with two horses in the jump-off, IV Ever and New Idol Z, takes third and fourth place respectively, while Roberto Teran (COL) and Woklahoma capture second place.
